In 1963 Ministry of Education, Govt. of India set up Central schools(now known as Kendriya Vidyalayas) by taking over 20 Regimental Schools run by Ministry of Defence. These Kendriya Vidyalayas are now managed by Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, an autonomous body fully financed by Central Govt. .Over this span of time now there are about 937 Kendriya Vidyalayas spread through out the country. The main objectives of Kendriya Vidyalayas are :
